Richard Lewis returns to YHE&S this year to present his latest collaboration with Elizabeth Crawford entitled, This Breathing of Leaves A Portfolio of Images and Poems. This Breathing of Leaves was begun, as a collaboration between naturalist and visual artist, Elizabeth Crawford, and teacher and writer, Richard Lewis, as a means of expressing, not only the marvel that constitutes the many worlds of leaves, but, as each leaf so often revealed, the beauty and variety of their singular and inward lives.
Often beginning with a short poem by Richard, as a suggestive impetus, Elizabeth would bring together, from her abundant collection of leaves, an inspired ensemble of one, or many leaves, to illuminate and illustrate, the gestural and inward possibilities of each poem. And from this meeting of images and leaves, a theatre of gathered leaf-worlds was brought to life - and a video was made, to keep this particular, leaf-inspired, moment of time, alive.

With pleasure then, this portfolio for each of you, that not only includes a selection of six original portraits of leaves and their imagery - but a link to seeing all six leaf-worlds, as they bring light and air, indeed, their breathing, to each of us . . .
